Light comes off a soft polished face as a highlight rather than as colour, so the tile looks darker and glassier on the wall than it does in the hand. On a mosaic sheet that multiplies: every chip carries its own highlight, the grout grid drops back between them, and the sheet reads as one moving surface instead of a run of small squares.
About Soft polished finish tiles
The soft polished mosaic sheets run from 225 × 230 mm to 305 × 305 mm with pieces down to 20 mm, and also appear on the mosaic page. The marble-look tiles are made in 300 × 600 mm and 600 × 600 mm, and record polished as the alternative face.
No AS 4586 slip class is recorded for anything on this page. The mosaic sheets are named Carrara for the veining, and the supplier's current documentation records them as natural marble; the quarry or region of origin is not recorded. Material is not stated for the marble-look tiles.
