Black tiles

Two black tiles, delivered Australia-wide, both Studio Ink ceramic subway tiles: Studio Ink Subway with a flat face and Studio Ink Wave Subway with a rippled one. The black tiles currently in the range are gloss subway shapes at 75 × 300 mm. Both are 8 mm thick. Each has an A$3 sample piece. Neither is matt, and neither records a slip class.

Black subway tiles: flat or wave

The two share a size, a thickness and a box: 44 pieces, 1 m², 16 kg. The difference is the face. Black under a reflective glaze behaves less like a colour and more like a dark mirror: it shows a fingerprint the way a pale gloss never does. Studio Ink records a flat profile; on Studio Ink Wave the page describes the gloss breaking into highlights rather than a flat sheet. Black kitchen tiles and splashbacks

Both are listed in kitchen splashback tiles and kitchen tiles, as well as in wall tiles and bathroom tiles. Those collections are how the range is grouped, not a rating, and no installed post here shows either tile. Whether a tile suits a particular splashback is for your installer to confirm.

Black and white tiles

There is no black-and-white tile here, such as a patterned or chequerboard tile. A black and white wall is put together from separate tiles. Three white subway tiles record the same 75 × 300 mm size and 8 mm thickness as the two Studio Ink tiles: Studio Flat, whose finish row reads Gloss or matt, and Studio Wave and Studio Crest Wave, both gloss with a wave profile; on Crest Wave the edges undulate as well as the face. The other whites are in white tiles. How the two colours are laid out, and the joint colour between them, is a design decision, so set the samples side by side before you plan it.

Black floor tiles: what the pages record

Neither Studio Ink tile records an AS 4586 slip class, so there is no floor figure here to read. Of the tiles that do record one, the nearest to black by colour tag are two in charcoal tiles: Ridge Charcoal, described as a near-black slate look with a rough face, records P5, and Urban Graphite, a matt concrete look, records P3. Each product page records one class for the tile as a whole. The values are from the supplier's current documentation; we do not hold the underlying test reports, and a recorded class is not approval for a particular floor. How many black subway tiles per square metre?

A 75 × 300 mm tile covers 0.0225 m², about 44.4 tiles per square metre with no joint, before cuts, and both pages record a box of 44 pieces covering 1 m². The tile calculator turns your measurements into a count of whole tiles.
