Mosaic tiles

Twelve mosaic tiles, sold by the sheet and delivered Australia-wide: five natural marble, four ceramic and three porcelain, in eight shapes. Every sheet has an A$3 sample piece, so you can see the chip size and finish in your own light before ordering.

What a mosaic tile sheet is

Mosaic tiles are sheeted tiles, laid a sheet at a time, and the sheet is the part worth understanding. The chips arrive mounted on a backing at a spacing set in the factory, and it cannot be opened or closed on the wall. That loads the job onto one decision: the joint where two sheets meet has to match the joints inside them. Get that wrong and the sheet edges draw a faint square across the surface that grout will not cover.

Chips run down to 12.8 × 95 mm fingers and 20 mm rounds, and the smaller the chip, the more closely a sheet follows whatever is underneath it. A mosaic conforms to a bowed wall; it does not bridge one, which is the difference between a sheet and a large tile on the same surface.

Shapes, materials and finishes

The twelve sheets cover herringbone (three sheets), strip (two), hexagon (two), and one each of stack, fan, round, square and finger. Gloss, matt, honed and polished are the finishes on file, and every sheet records one. Shape pages sit inside this one: hexagon, herringbone, penny round, fish scale and square.

The five marble sheets are natural stone, polished or honed. The three porcelain mosaic tiles are the two strip sheets and the finger sheet. The four ceramic sheets are the matt square and hexagon sheets and the two 316 × 277 mm herringbone sheets. Mosaic tiles for a kitchen splashback

As mosaic wall tiles, the sheets are often used for a kitchen splashback, and all twelve are also in the kitchen splashback tiles collection, alongside the eleven subway tiles and a 300 × 600 mm white wall tile. That is a grouping by wall format, not a rating. Mosaic tiles for bathroom walls

In a bathroom the sheets are often used for a shower niche or a vanity wall. For mosaic floor tiles, note that no sheet here records an AS 4586 wet pendulum (slip) class. That is not a determination either way: use the individual product record as the specification source and confirm floor and wet-area requirements with your installer or specifier.

Common questions

How many mosaic sheets do I need?

Eleven sheets state a sheet size, from 225 × 230 mm to 306 × 306 mm by area, which works out at 10.7 to 19.3 sheets per square metre before joints; Studio White Finger states a piece size only.
