Vertical stack around the niche
Every joint sits on a continuous vertical line, so the wall reads as a run of narrow columns rather than a brick pattern. The horizontal joints line up too, which keeps the grid quiet at this scale. Grout close to the tile colour softens the lines further, and the back of the niche carries the same tile, so the columns continue into the recess.
At full wall height the surface reads as one pale field with a faint sheen, catching daylight unevenly rather than flatly. Colour shifts between screens and batches, so it is worth confirming a physical sample in your own light.
