Tile prices in Australia: what a square metre costs here and at eight other online shops

Price per square metre for twelve tile types at eight Australian online tile shops, read on 15 October 2026, with Tilekind's own prices beside them and a worked delivered total.
In this guide

Short answer: On 15 October 2026 we read the listed price per square metre of twelve common tile types at eight Australian online tile shops, the same eight we compare on samples, delivery and returns, and set our own prices beside them. Depending on the type, the middle of those shops ran from about $31 to about $61 a square metre. Tilekind's price was below the middle of the shops listing that type in 7 of the twelve types and above it in 5; in 3 of the twelve it was within 5% of the middle either way. A price per square metre is only the start: box size, delivery and samples decide what an order costs, and section 4 works one through.

Price per square metre is the figure most tile shops show first, and it is the fairer of the two shelf prices to compare from shop to shop, because box sizes differ. This page sets out what a square metre cost on one day, at shops a buyer in Australia is likely to compare, for the kinds of tile we sell. It covers list prices only. Trade prices, store prices, quotes, price-match offers and offers that depend on order value or signing up, ours included, are left out of every figure. All prices are in Australian dollars and include GST.

1. How the prices were read

The eight shops are Beaumont Tiles, Future Tile, National Tiles, The Tile Collective, Tile Lane, TileCloud, TileTouch and Tilemall: the shops in online tile shops in Australia compared, chosen there before any price was read. For each shop and each tile type we opened the shop's own collection or search page in its default order and took the matching tiles in that order, up to eight, without picking for price. Size had to match within 5 mm. Mosaics, slabs and anything needing a trade login were left out.

We read 538 prices between 6:31 pm and 7:21 pm on 15 October 2026, Melbourne time. On checking, 30 were set aside because they were not the same kind of tile as the row they had been read for: 20 mm pavers among the 600 × 600 mm stone and travertine looks, stone-look and textured subway tiles among the plain glazed ones, and five tiles whose own pages gave a different look or none. That left 508. A price per square metre is the shop's own figure where it shows one to the cent, otherwise the box price divided by the area in the box; the two agreed to within half a percent wherever both were shown. 16 of the 508 were on a reduced price that day; the reduced price is the one counted, because it is what a buyer would have paid.

For each shop and type we took the median price of its tiles, the middle one when they are put in order, so a shop with eight tiles of a type counts once, the same as a shop with one. "The middle of the shops" in the tables is the median of those shop figures; with an even number of shops it falls halfway between the two middle figures.

2. What a square metre cost, by tile type

Tile type Middle of the shops Shop figures, low to high Shops Tilekind Tilekind against the middle
Marble look, 600 × 600 mm, polished $45.98 $23.95 to $61.39 6 $47.92 above, within 5%

Travertine look, 600 × 1200 mm $60.84 $44.45 to $138.89 6 $61.81 above, within 5%
Rough or external-finish stone look, 600 × 600 mm $47.41 $29.95 to $139.00 6 $54.17 above
Subway, 75 × 300 mm, flat, plain glazed $40.84 $24.95 to $98.99 7 $37.00 below
Subway, 75 × 300 mm, wave or ripple $50.10 $31.95 to $79.00 3 $55.00 above
Wall tile, 100 × 300 mm $42.00 $26.95 to $65.90 8 $31.67 below
White wall tile, 300 × 600 mm $30.60 $23.45 to $44.12 8 $27.78 below
Concrete look, 600 × 600 mm, matt $48.00 $33.62 to $68.75 7 $38.89 below
For reference: subway, 75 × 300 mm, handmade look (we sell none) $94.48 $39.95 to $131.12 6 – –

Three things stand out. Plain wall tiles cost least: a white 300 × 600 mm wall tile was about $30.60 a square metre in the middle of the shops. Large formats cost more than the same look at 600 × 600 mm: at the five shops listing marble-look tiles in both sizes, the 600 × 1200 mm figure was higher every time. And handmade-look subway tiles, several of them Spanish ranges, sat well above the rest of the subway figures, at a middle of $94.48 against $40.84 for plain glazed flat subway and $50.10 for wave or ripple subway.

The spread inside each type is wide. A shop's figure depends on which ranges it carries, and several shops carry one range at one price across a whole type, so a single figure can stand for one product line. Four figures rest on a single tile: TileCloud's matt marble-look, 100 × 300 mm wall and concrete-look figures, and Beaumont Tiles' wave subway. One of them changes our standing: without TileCloud's one matt marble-look tile at 600 × 600 mm, the middle of that row would be $45.17 rather than $50.39, above our price instead of below it. Section 6 has every shop's figure and the number of tiles behind it.

3. Why a price per box does not compare

A box price only means something next to the area in the box. Across the 508 prices, boxes held from about half a square metre to 2.16 m². 358 of them held 1.44 m², the usual box for 600 × 600 mm tiles, and the rest varied by size and by shop. Two boxes at the same price can hold quite different amounts of tile.

Box size also sets how much tile an order contains, because tiles are sold in whole boxes. Tiles per square metre and per box, for every size here lists the box contents for every tile we sell, and how many tiles do I need shows the rounding up.

4. From a price per square metre to what an order costs

Take a 10 m² area in a marble-look tile at 600 × 600 mm, with a 10% allowance for cuts: 11 m². At 1.44 m² a box, that is 8 boxes, or 11.52 m² of tile. At our price of $69 a box, $47.92 a square metre, the tiles come to $552. The 8 boxes weigh about 240 kg, so delivery to Greater Melbourne is $150 at our published rates, $290 to the Geelong area, $650 to the rest of Victoria, or $385 to ACT, NSW, Queensland and South Australia. In Greater Melbourne the order comes to $702, or $60.94 for each square metre of tile bought; to New South Wales it comes to $937, or $81.34. That is the figure to set against another shop's delivered total, not the price per square metre on its own.

Our own terms change the total in four ways. Delivery is priced by the total weight and the state; up to 1,000 kg it is at most A$150 in Greater Melbourne, A$290 around Geelong, A$650 in the rest of Victoria, A$385 to ACT, NSW, Queensland and South Australia, A$685 to Western Australia and the Northern Territory and A$955 to Tasmania. When the products in an order come to A$1,500 or more, A$100 comes off at checkout, about 6.7% on an order of exactly A$1,500 and a smaller share on a larger one. If you subscribe to our emails, a A$40 code arrives for a first order of A$500 or more: on the $552 of tiles in the example above, the code is worth about 7% of the tile price. The two cannot be used on the same order. And a sample piece is A$3, with free sample delivery, credited against a full-tile order of the same tile placed within six months. Other shops price delivery and samples in their own ways; tile delivery in Australia and tile samples in Australia compare them shop by shop, and buying tiles online in Australia puts area, boxes and delivery together.

5. Where Tilekind sits

We are part of this comparison, so this section is ours to write and yours to check against the tables. Our full-tile prices run from $27.78 a square metre for Studio Pure White to $61.81 for the 600 × 1200 mm Coastal travertine looks; mosaics are priced by the sheet and are not in this comparison. In 7 of the twelve types our price was below the middle of the shops listing that type. The widest gaps were 100 × 300 mm wall tiles at $31.67 against a middle of $42.00 and matt concrete looks at $38.89 against $48.00; in the other five the gap was about 10% or less, for example plain glazed flat subway at $37.00 against $40.84.

In the other 5 types our price was above the middle: marble look, 600 × 600 mm, polished, $47.92 against $45.98; travertine look, 600 × 600 mm, $54.86 against $49.59; travertine look, 600 × 1200 mm, $61.81 against $60.84; rough or external-finish stone look, 600 × 600 mm, $54.17 against $47.41; subway, 75 × 300 mm, wave or ripple, $55.00 against $50.10. The closest calls, within 5% of the middle either way, were marble look, 600 × 600 mm, polished, marble look, 600 × 600 mm, matt or honed, travertine look, 600 × 1200 mm. Two shops listed lower prices than ours in most types: The Tile Collective in 12 of the 12 types it carries, and Future Tile in 10 of 11. The tables in section 6 show every figure.

Questions people ask

How much do tiles cost per square metre in Australia?

At the eight online shops read on 15 October 2026, the middle price ran from about $31 a square metre for white wall tile, 300 × 600 mm to about $61 for travertine look, 600 × 1200 mm, with the marble, terrazzo, travertine, stone and concrete looks at 600 × 600 mm all between about $45 and $60. Individual tiles ran well outside those figures in both directions.

Why are some tiles much less per square metre than others?

In this read, size, look and range mattered most: plain wall tiles cost less than wave or handmade-look subway, and 600 × 1200 mm cost more than 600 × 600 mm. Within a type, each shop's figure follows the ranges it carries, and 16 of the prices were reduced that day.

Is a price per box the same as a price per square metre?

Only when a box holds exactly one square metre. Boxes in this read held from about half a square metre to 2.16 m², so divide the box price by the area in the box before comparing.

Do these prices include delivery?

No. They are tile prices only. Delivery depends on the weight of the order and where it goes, and each shop prices it differently; section 4 shows the difference it makes on one order.

Does Tilekind show reduced prices?

No Tilekind product shows a "was" price as of 15 October 2026. Two standing offers apply: A$100 off when the products in an order come to A$1,500 or more, and A$40 off a first order of A$500 or more for email subscribers, one use per customer and not combined with other discounts.
