600 × 600 mm tiles: 34 compared

In this guide

Short answer: thirty-four of the sixty products here record 600 × 600 mm, and 600 × 600 mm tiles lists the same thirty-four. Six are made only as the square; eighteen are also made in 300 × 600 mm and ten in 600 × 1200 mm. Twelve are marble looks and twenty-two are concrete, stone, terrazzo and travertine looks; all thirty-four record Porcelain and a slip class. Size groups the tiles, but it does not make them alike.

Six large tiles leaning against a plaster wall in window light: a polished white marble look, a grey concrete look, a grey terrazzo with large chips, a vein-cut travertine look, a dark rough slate look and a cream stone look.

1. Why thirty-four, and what the square is made alongside

Thirty-four products carry 600 × 600 mm in their size tag in the site's product feed, and the collection page counts the same thirty-four. That is more than half of the sixty products on the site, and the collection page says as much: "The 600 mm square is the format the largest part of the range is made in."

The square is rarely the only format on the page. Six products record 600 × 600 mm alone: the three Quarry concrete looks, Atlas Pearl, and the two Haven In/Out terrazzo looks. Eighteen also record 300 × 600 mm. Ten also record 600 × 1200 mm. None records all three. Where a page lists two formats, the size has been a choice on the product page since 5 October 2026, and the order is placed for the size you choose. The ten, and the two made only in the long format, are compared in 600 × 1200 mm tiles: 12 compared.

The thirty-four are also most of Large format tiles, which lists thirty-six. The two it adds are Pietra Vela and Pietra Vela Fluted, made only in 600 × 1200 mm. How large is a large format tile? sets out three definitions (a technical bulletin's 400 mm side, a search summary that starts at 600 × 600 mm, and this collection's own two-format grouping); a 600 mm square meets all three.

2. Five looks, and the rows they share

Every one of the thirty-four is a look tile. Twelve are marble looks, six concrete looks, six stone looks, five terrazzo looks and five travertine looks. There is no plain colour, no subway shape and no mosaic sheet among them. None is made of the material it copies; why the concrete, terrazzo and travertine looks here are porcelain is set out in Concrete tiles or concrete look?, Terrazzo or terrazzo look? and Travertine or travertine look?

The look no longer separates the Material or slip rows. On all twelve marble looks, all Pietra tiles, the Material row reads Porcelain and the slip row reads P2 or P3, both updated on 1 October 2026 from supplier documentation. On all twenty-two of the others, the Material row also reads Porcelain and a slip class is recorded. Every page shows the same note under its rows: fields shown as Not specified "are not stated in the supplier's current documentation for this tile". A blank is a gap in the record, not a negative.

Colour is spread across the looks. Fourteen carry the Grey tag, ten White, eight Beige and two Charcoal; no black and no green tile is made in the square. The colour guides take these a colour at a time: Grey tiles: 17 greys compared, White tiles: 29 whites compared and Beige tiles: 8 compared.

3. Fifteen matt, and a pattern in the Pietra faces

The Finish row reads Matt on fifteen pages. Three record Rough, the three Ridge slate looks. Atlas Frost and Atlas Ivory record "Texture and honed". The two Haven In/Out tiles record two faces, written "Matt or rough" on one page and "Matt / rough" on the other.

The twelve Pietra tiles follow a pattern the pages record without stating it. The six that are also made in 300 × 600 mm all record "Honed or polished". Five of the six that are also made in 600 × 1200 mm record "Polished or matt", and the sixth, Pietra Perla, records Honed. On the eleven Pietra tiles that name two faces, the finish has been a choice beside the cart since 5 October 2026, Honed or Polished on the six also made in 300 × 600 mm and Polished or Matt on Pietra Luna, Alba, Dove, Smoke and Shadow, and the Finishing line shows the one chosen. What is a honed finish? sets out how the honed and polished faces of one look differ to the eye. On Atlas Frost and Atlas Ivory it names one, Honed, where the Finish row reads "Texture and honed". The two Haven In/Out tiles offer Matt or Rough the same way.

The twelve ways this range writes a finish sets out the twelve ways a Finish row is written across the sixty pages, and Porcelain, ceramic, rectified, matt, gloss explains what each row records.

4. Thickness: 10 mm on all thirty-four

All thirty-four record a thickness of 10 mm. Six of them, the three Quarry concrete looks, Atlas Frost, Atlas Ivory and Pietra Perla, read Not specified until the value was updated on 1 October 2026 from supplier documentation. No 600 × 600 mm tile here records 8 mm. Tile thickness sets the square beside the rest of the range.

5. Every square records a slip class

All thirty-four record a slip class, and only two products on the site record one without being made in the square: Pietra Vela and Pietra Vela Fluted, made only in 600 × 1200 mm. Thirty-one show it in a row headed Slip rating and three, the Atlas stone looks, in a row headed Slip-rating reference. All three Quarry pages record a single class, P3; Quarry Sand and Quarry Ash gave a two-value range until 4 October 2026. The twelve Pietra tiles record P2 or P3, updated on 1 October 2026 from supplier documentation.

The collection page calls these an "AS 4586 slip class". The product records do not name an edition; the edition in the Standards Australia catalogue is AS 4586-2013, Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials; when this guide was written the catalogue listed it as awaiting revision, with Amendment 1:2017 marked current. Tile slip ratings explains what the classes mean. The collection page states the limit of the record plainly: "A recorded class is a reference value, not approval for a particular application." Where a tile may be laid is settled by your installer or specifier, not by a size, a look or a class.

6. What the square does to the count

The size row is the one number that sets how many pieces and how much joint a wall or floor carries, and the arithmetic is the same for all thirty-four. A 600 × 600 mm tile covers 0.36 m², so one square metre takes about 2.78 of them and carries about 3.3 m of joint. In 300 × 600 mm the same square metre takes about 5.56 pieces and 5 m of joint; in 600 × 1200 mm about 1.39 pieces and 2.5 m. These are the author's calculations from the recorded sizes, before cuts and before any joint width is allowed for. The box is a separate figure: four of these tiles to a 1.44 m² box, as How many tiles in a box, and how many per square metre? sets out for every size here, beside how other Australian shops pack the same sizes.

For the eighteen tiles also made in 300 × 600 mm and the ten also made in 600 × 1200 mm, that is the practical difference between the two formats on the same page. Tile sizes in Australia sets every face size on the site side by side and works out what each does to a square metre, and the tile quantity calculator works from your own net area. 300 × 600 mm tiles: 19 compared takes the rectangles one by one. The count stays the same whichever way the squares are laid; Tile patterns for 600 × 600, 300 × 600 and 600 × 1200 tiles draws the grid, the checkerboard and the mixed layouts to scale, and names the same-series pairs that share a finish and slip class.

7. Checking a 600 mm square before you order

All thirty-four carry a Sample piece option beside the standard purchase unit. A sample piece helps, in the page's words, "with colour and finish comparison"; it does not show what a 600 mm square looks like across a room. We suggest setting it against a 600 mm square marked on the wall or floor it is for. Every page states that "Screen images, sample pieces and production batches can vary", and that a sample "does not prove project suitability, final stock, exact batch appearance". Where a page offers two faces as alternatives, a sample piece is offered for each, so order the one in the finish you have chosen. Tile samples explains how ordering works, and how to compare samples at home covers what to look at.

The look guides compare each series with its own neighbours: Concrete-look tiles: 6 faces compared, Stone-look tiles: 6 faces compared, Terrazzo-look tiles: 5 faces compared, Travertine-look tiles: 5 faces compared and Marble-look tiles: 14 faces compared.

Questions people ask

Are 600 × 600 tiles large format?

On this site, yes: all thirty-four are listed under Large format tiles. How large is a large format tile? sets out two outside definitions as well, and a 600 mm square meets both.

Which 600 × 600 tiles are polished?

Eleven record a polished face in the Finish row, all Pietra marble looks: six as "Honed or polished" and five as "Polished or matt". On those eleven, polished is one of two finishes to choose from on the product page; the other is honed on the six and matt on the five. None of the other twenty-three records a polished face.

Which 600 × 600 tiles also come in 600 × 1200?

Ten record both: Pietra Luna, Alba, Dove, Smoke, Shadow and Perla, Atlas Frost and Atlas Ivory, and Coastal Alabaster and Coastal Ivory. Since 5 October 2026 you choose between the two sizes on the product page.

Where these facts come from

Every count above was produced on 22 September 2026 by a script that read the product feed at /products.json, cross-checked it against 600 × 600 mm tiles and Large format tiles, then read the thirty-four product pages in turn: the Size, Thickness, Finish and slip rows, the Product type, Style and Material rows in the specifications panel, the colour tag, the purchase options and the opening description sentence. The Thickness, Material and slip counts were updated on 1 October 2026 from supplier documentation, and the six Pietra finish rows on 4 October 2026. The size and finish passages were updated on 5 October 2026, when those choices were added to the product pages. Words in quotation marks are the product page's or collection page's own wording, copied as written; the counts outside them are tallies of those rows; the per-square-metre figures are the author's arithmetic from the recorded sizes; anything else outside quotation marks is the author's observation, not a recorded fact. Nothing here is a performance claim or a statement of where a tile belongs. Supplier documentation changes, so read the page on the day you order, and confirm the specification your project needs with the responsible installer.

The Standards Australia facts are limited to its public catalogue entry, read on the same date: designation, title, status and amendment. No paid standard text was copied or paraphrased.
